BUSINESS EXERCISE-the true mirror of one's value

The most unique experience of my life was today's business exercise. I'd rather say that this was the most eventful and exciting day uptill now besides being loaded with hands-on experience. The most awaited part of my orientation programme completely unexpected and different from other forms of teaching. The class was split up into BUDDY TEAMS as we call it in simpler words groups of two.
I teamed up woth Col. Anjaria. We were just told to find our worth by earning money from the shops on Laxmi road between ALKA CHOWK and TULSI BAGH but with certain rules that needed to be followed, precisely these rules were:
#We were not allowed to tell tht we are from SIMS
#We were not allowed to use any wrong information to get a day's employment and earn at least Rs 200 per team
#We were to get the job by 10:30 am our time having been started at 09:45 am
#And the most important rule that we had to reach our destination without taking public travel modes or personal vehicles..this simply meant hitch-hiking and if someone was not kind enough it meant a lot of walking to meet the time deadline.
We set out and were lucky enough that we didnt have to walk more than a kilometre, three lifts and we reached the Laxmi road with a loss of ten minutes having been misguided three crossings and that too on foot, trying to find employment as quickly as possible. But finding a job was the most trying part of the exercise....people were not ready to employ us and simply said that their bosses were out of town or directly that they could not employ us...some people though were ready to employ us but then not ready to pay us.. We checked over 30 shops crossing the road through dense traffic searching madly.I was even chide by a policeman for having crossed a road simultaneously as the traffic light turned green and that also for the second time. Finally we found a day's job at woodland factory outlet after convincing their store incharge and then the area sales manager of Pune.
Not many customers turned up but yes we managed some sale. The most interesting of our customer's was an Irani family who spoke english in their own accented whispers to comprehend which you had to literally strain your earsto understand and meet their demands. They kept comparing Indian prices with Iranian prices they found the shoes very expensive and left with a very warm good-bye.
The incharge or our boss for one day rather few hours Mr. Mohsin was very helpful and kind.He showed us the software especially designed for Woodland and how they managed their sales and stocks. This was a big learning experience because it made us understand how brands manage their factory and franchise outlet throughout the globe. We got to know how sales and stocks, demand supply and the running cost of the outlets. He was kind enough to offer us tea and lunch.
I have always valued money but today I understood the real pains one takes to earn and the worth in a way like never before, owing to the fact that one owner was only ready to pay us Rs 25 for half day work because he pays his permanent workers less than hundred ruppees. But the day was an outright learning experience that proves the fact that science studies emphasize on PRACTICALS.Over the next two years I will learn a lot through a variety of exercises but this shall stand apart from all others forever being the first of its kind.MBA PRCTICAL as I may call it,shall be the most remembered part of my learning.
